Yoga for Pregnancy

Yoga is a wonderful way to exercise during pregnancy.  It prepares both the mind and the body for childbirth and helps you connect with the unborn child.  In addition to strengthening and stretching the pelvic muscles, it brings a greater awareness to the breath and how to use it during labor to calm yourself.  Emotions can sometimes run high due to increased hormonal activity and yoga can help you process them better.  You will become more connected to the consciousness of the baby in the womb and its sensitivity to disturbance.  You will learn to create a relaxed, calm environment for yourself and your baby.

If you’ve never practiced and do not get regular exercise, do not start yoga during the first trimester.  Be sure to consult your Dr. before beginning any exercise program.  Our Hatha Slow Flow and Yin classes are appropriate for pregnancy with some modifications and adjustments.  With care and respect, the teacher can help you learn to work gently within and take the time to breathe through the changes.
